Cannonville Town Council Meeting Minutes
JULY 2025
Cannonvillle town held their regular Monthly Board Meeting Wednesday, July 16, 2025, in the town Hall. The meeting began at 7:00pm.
Public in Attendance: Pete Jensen, Sally & Blair Smith, Sue & John Bell, Anita Fletcher, Ramona Morreale, Eric McDonald, Cherie Scoffield, & Arjean Ivie.
Board Members: Stewart Ivie, Melanie Ott, & Alma Fletcher, John Morreale, Mayor Bill Scoffield, Machele Nelson, clerk.
Pledge: Bill Scoffield
Prayer: Alma Fletcher
Reading and Approval of Agenda: The agenda was read and adopted. Motion by Stewart Ivie, 2nd by Melanie Ott, all were in favor.
Reading and Approval of minutes: June 18, 2025, town council minutes were reviewed and approved, Motion to approve was by John Morreale, 2nd by Stewart Ivie, all were in favor.
Mayor's Items
-Paperwork has been signed adopting Justin W. Wayment, 51 East 400 North, Cedar City, UT 84721, as the town's legal representative/lawyer. Resolution was adopted. Motion to approve was by Stewart Ivie, 2nd by Melanie Ott, all were in favor.
-The new Business License ordinance was reviewed and adopted. Motion to approve was by John Morreale, 2nd by Stewart Ivie, all were in favor.
-Erik McDonald asked about code enforcement with our ordinances, etc. and volunteered to help identify what that role would look like and then fill it.
-The mayor announced that a second SITLA meeting June 21st, 2025, at 1pm, would be held for the purpose of gathering more information, walk the area, interview folks about their family stories having to do with Promise Rock offering.
Public Comment:
-Cherie Scoffield indicated that Elaine Baldwin, county America250 chair, had her first meeting and asked for all the towns to be involved, beginning with a quilt contest to be completed by 12/31. Other ideas were to hold celebrations, walk 250 miles in 2026, do town and home decorations, display banners, including ones from the tank.
-It was suggested (Cherie Scoffield), that a night be set aside, July 23rd, to meet the new candidates get to know their views. Blair Smith agreed to develop five applicable questions that might be used.
Departmental Reports:
Planning: Pete Jensen indicated Justin Wayment, town lawyer was reviewing our zoning ordinance, and it would be ready Thursday July 17th.
Water: Waiting to hear back from Sunrise Engr on SCADA controls and funding. It would really help during our summer power outages when the well needed to be reset.
Fire: Weeding was completed at the firehouse. Cherie voiced concerned about emergency notifications including the town early warning siren being activated.
Roads: John Bell and Erik McDonald volunteered to help with the installation of the street signs this week. Thank you, John and Erik.
Parks: All interior painting has been completed. Looking for a time to paint the doors, counter tops, and the epoxy the floors.
Alma indicated the needed supplies are now on hand to put additional sprinklers in and around the new trees and a couple of no water zones.
