BUSINESS MEETING General Plan Work Session 6:00-6:05 Introductions 6:05-6:40 Goals and Objectives in the Transportation Plan 6:40-7:30 Discussion 7:30 Conclude Other Business Items (as needed) ADJOURN Public Comments: Mobility - I do love the addition of the new sidewalks for the kids to use for school and neighbors for walking. I also love the trees. Living directly on this road, we have noticed that the addition of the trees and the speed counter has affected the speed people exit the Bacchus highway lately. Not perfect, but definite improvement. - In light of the recent cycling fatality at this intersection [9180 W 201 EXPY], PLEASE improve the ability for cyclists to cross here more safely!! There really is NO OTHER WAY to travel west from this area if cyclists from the Magna area wish to bike to the scenic Great Salt Lake area. Google maps navigation even MISDIRECTS bikers to travel through restricted private property (Kennecott) in an attempt to avoid this highway. Can we work with Kennecott on finding a life-saving solution?? A toll road? Bridge? Anything! - I would like a safe, & friendly, public walkway along the canal. o The canal road is private property and people should not be allowed to walk alongside it. - There are no other east and west routes close to home and it gets bogged down. - The sidewalks along many of these streets are either nonexistent or in accessible. Lots have tree trunks growing through them or are overgrown with brush. I would love to see sidewalks updated, so that people will use them instead of walking on the road. Historic, easy walking, opportunity for change - An overpass with on/off ramps would be helpful to keep traffic flowing on 201 freeway especially during rush hour. There is a lot of congestion due to traffic lights at these times. - No bus service centralized to the community. - Needs trax. - Isolated area, no good transportation services [directly south of current Cyprus HS Site]. - Fast reckless driving [8400 W]. - No trax access. - There needs to be a turn light installed [8400 W Magna Main Street]. Turning west can be impossible at certain times. - Again, a highly used intersection [on 8400 W Western Drive], children crossing for school, no turn signals. - No rail. - Too much congestion [on 8400 W], dangerous amounts of traffic. - Always congested due to West Jordan commuters trying to get to the freeway... hoping Mountain View will improve this a lot! (8400 West). - Can't take public transit to work because it doubles my commute and I don't feel safe on the 35M. o I feel the same way. I don't feel safe on the 35M, and there are often smokers on the bus who, while not smoking on the bus, reek of smoke and it's' so strong that I get a migraine. - This [8400 W Herzog Ave] is a heavily traveled intersection, the placement of bus stops here is dangerous, right of way views are blocked for pedestrians and cars. - I dislike the Small intersection [3100 S, just East of 8400 W] , buses headed East and turn right onto 8400 West swings into the turn lane for the westbound traffic. o They need to bite the bullet and finish widening 8400 and maybe even a bus lane right now, this intersection is dangerous because of how they did the sidewalks mixed with a narrow intersection. - 8400 West is just an unsafe road. A lot of speeding and cross-traffic that doesn't have lights. - It's easier to cut through neighborhoods than drive the main roads during high traffic times. - People don't like to share the road. - No bus stops on this road [1840 W]. - I like that it is convenient to get to the bus line from my house. - I dislike that there is no TRAX in Magna. - 3500 route connects most lines and max works fairly well. - I'd ride the bus to work at the Magna Library if there was a route straight there. - I like the Smiths because it is close to home, easy to walk to good bus service. - Road too wide - encourages speeding. No sidewalks [8400 West]. - Magna has great regular bus service. - Not safe to walk busses only go one direction [County West Dr.] - Bus transportation is awful. - Crazy thought what if we put a roundabout here rather than a 4 way stop [-8818 W 3100 S]. This intersection is just not as functional as it could be. - Bus Service to downtown takes too long. o Same for me. I work at the U, and when we are not in lockdown (working from home), I would spend three hours a day on transit, as opposed to one hour by car. Could we have the S-line train that goes from Central Pointe to Sugar house extend all the way to Magna? o I live in Magna and work in downtown Salt Lake City. I would have to leave at least an hour earlier if I used public transportation. - I like the Utah -111. - Bus service is inconsistent!! - The speed limit on this street [8000 W] is a bit high for having families and kids around. I have seen vehicles speed up over the 40 mph speed limit and it is dangerous. I think that lowering the speed would provide some sense of caution to the vehicles passing by. - Difficult to turn onto 3500 S during peak hours, missing sidewalk segments so not safe for walking, bus transit is noneffective - There is only a stop sign and it's located where a school is, new residential, and only a left or right turn. Waiting takes a long time and has witnessed barely missed accidents. - Close to home & there's usually a bus there [Copper Bend Rd.], before Coronavirus. Right now it's not convenient & I'm driving. - The bus stops are too far for me to walk to and to get downtown or almost everywhere takes forever using mass trans. - 3500 South 8400 West can be a very dangerous intersection. - No room for more roads without cutting into people's property. - I like the bus service - 3100 S. 8400 W is a busy intersection with large trucks. Create a bypass road for large trucks on lower the speed limit and enforce it. - I dislike 7200 West and 201 - 7200 West and 201 are absolutely terrible. - I like that there is not a lot of traffic [Magna Main and 8950] but the newer road is failing and has turned into a bouncy obstacle course. - I like there is a proper mix of transportation options - easily walkable Existing General Plan Transportation Goals GOAL 4: Mobility - Promote land use development patterns that provide high quality of life opportunities to all and offer multiple mobility choices. Objective 4.1: Adopt measures to create pedestrian priority in major centers, especially along Main Street and develop other places that encourage walking and street life. Objective 4.2: Create additional parking opportunities near Magna Main Street. Objective 4.3: Develop bicycle routes and paths that can be integrated within the street network and with trail systems, canals, and greenways. Objective 4.4: Encourage transit-oriented development (TOD) in key areas along existing and future transit routes. Objective 4.5: Coordinate with UTA to improve transit facilities along the existing MAX bus rapid transit line on 3500 South, as well as other bus connections to the 3500 South corridor. Objective 4.6: Provide a balanced transportation system that will accommodate all modes of travel, while implementing traffic calming and access management measures in high activity and residential areas to ensure the safety of residents. Objective 4.7: Coordinate with regional policy makers to adopt 'Safe Routes to School' legislation that will improve the quality of access to schools for students.
