KEARNS, UTAH - In front of what has been called the fastest ice in the world and the athletes who train on it, Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert and Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker joined other Utah officials and Olympic VIPs to announce the formation of an exploratory committee to consider a bid for the 2022 or 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Salt Lake City - Today Lieutenant Governor Greg Bell announced the launch of the Utah Political District Maps website. The website will display interactive maps of the State House, State Senate, State Board of Education and Congressional Districts recently passed by the Utah State Legislature.  The districts represented by these maps take effect on January 1, 2012 for nominating and electoral purposes and on January 1, 2013 for all other purposes.

Salt Lake City - Following seven months of research and study, the 35 member Utah Agriculture Sustainability Task Force, led by Lt. Governor Greg Bell and Commissioner Leonard Blackham, is offering 29 recommendations that are expected to protect and enhance Utah agriculture. The recommendations generally call for the creation of new laws and policies at the federal, state and local levels that remove obstacles for safe and modern farming and ranching.

On November 22, 2010, the Utah Board of Canvassers certified election results for the 2010 General Election.  Results show that 51 percent of registered voters participated in the election, the highest turnout for a midterm election since 1994.

The state board of canvassers will convene to certify the 2010 General Election results for all statewide/multicounty candidates and ballot propositions.  Voter turnout is anticipated to be the highest for a midterm election since 1994.

Salt Lake City - The Utah Office of Tourism, an agency of the Governor's Office of Economic Development, launched its winter "Life Elevated(R)" advertising campaign during a Capitol news conference to promote Utah's skiing and "The Greatest Snow on Earth(R)." The $1.1 million campaign includes three new 30-second commercial spots that will rotate on 13 national cable networks beginning in January.

Between October 2008 and October 2009, hundreds of Utahns relived the personal stories of friends and family members who died from a fatal drug overdose to researchers from Utah Department of Health (UDOH).

SALT LAKE CITY - Lieutenant Governor Greg Bell and the Division of Housing and Community Development will release the results of a snapshot survey showing Utah's homeless population during a press conference on Friday, May 14 at 10:30 a.m. in room 240 of the State Capitol. The survey reflects a decrease by four percent in the total number of homeless and a decrease of 42 percent in chronic homelessness since last year.
