Governor Huntsman supports national energy efficiency efforts

Salt Lake City - Governor Jon Huntsman joined the Leadership Group of the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency on Monday, continuing Utah's energy efficiency program launched earlier this year.

"This is something we have spotlighted in Utah. However, it is vital that each state continue to focus on reducing energy consumption," Governor Huntsman said. "This program can help coordinate efforts at all levels to ensure the realization of energy efficiency."

Power facilities are on the brink of requiring a "Red Alert" day. Southern Utah has been on yellow alerts the entire month of July. The Wasatch Front has been on yellow alerts since mid-July. Yellow alerts denote a need for moderate conservation.

Governor Huntsman to tour Southern Utah fires

Salt Lake City - Utah Governor Jon Huntsman will receive a briefing on site and tour the two southern Utah fires as part of the three-day rural road trip which begins today.

Both the Kolob fire and Jarvis fire began this weekend and have consumed more than 5,000 acres combined. Department of Public Safety Commissioner Robert Flowers will join Governor Huntsman for the 30-minute air tour.

Governor appoints new Labor Commissioner

Salt Lake City - Utah Governor Jon Huntsman announced today he has nominated Sherrie Hayashi to head the State's Labor Commission.

Hayashi, upon confirmation of the Utah State Senate, will succeed Lee Ellertson as Labor Commissioner upon his retirement in mid-July. She currently works as director of the Commission's Anti-Discrimination & Labor Division.
