STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR GARY R. HERBERT:

SALT LAKE CITY – The Governor's legal team will soon be changing. The Utah State Senate has unanimously confirmed the nomination of John A. Pearce, general counsel for Governor Gary R. Herbert, to the Utah Court of Appeals.

SALT LAKE CITY - Governor Gary R. Herbert's deputy chief of staff, communications director and spokesperson, Ally Isom, will step down this Friday. Isom has been with the Governor's Office for three years.

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert has signed the official letter to appoint Jon Cox to Utah House District 58 in the Utah State Legislature.  The appointment comes at the recommendation of the Republican Party delegates who selected Cox, a Sanpete County Commissioner, to replace Spencer J. Cox, who now serves as Utah Lieutenant Governor.

SALT LAKE CITY – Governor Gary R. Herbert issued an executive order today calling for an analysis of Veteran employment among state agencies and prompting department heads to find ways to hire more veterans.

Salt Lake City - Today Governor Gary R. Herbert signed a proclamation convening the Utah Legislature into Special Session to address some legislative issues on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at 2:30 p.m.

SALT LAKE CITY - Governor Gary R. Herbert's annual Utah Health Summit was dominated by discussion surrounding whether the state should choose to expand its Medicaid program under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  More than 400 business, community, education, and government leaders were on hand for the governor's third summit, the focus of which was continuing to develop Utah-based solutions to the state's health care challenges.

Governor Gary R. Herbert will host his third annual Governor's Health Summit this week.  A significant portion of the Summit will focus on the state's pending decision of whether to expand its Medicaid program under the Affordable Care Act.

SALT LAKE CITY - The Fourth District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy on the juvenile court. The vacancy results from the retirement of Judge Kay A. Lindsay effective December 1, 2013.  The Fourth Judicial District includes Juab, Millard, Utah and Wasatch counties.

SALT LAKE CITY - The Appellate Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy on the Utah Court of Appeals. The vacancy results from the retirement of Judge William A. Thorne, Jr. on September 15, 2013.

SALT LAKE CITY - Today Governor Gary R. Herbert named Ann Silverberg Williamson the executive director of the Utah Department of Human Services. 

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah's economy continued to add jobs and maintain low unemployment through the month of August. The unemployment rate held steady for August at 4.7 percent, relatively unchanged from July's 4.6 percent. Though August's job growth of 2.7 percent rate is slower than the previous month, Utah continues to add jobs faster than the national average of 1.7 percent.

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Lt. Governor Greg Bell announced this morning he is stepping down as Utah's seventh lieutenant governor. After four years in his present post and 23 years in public service, Bell has decided to return to the private sector.

<p>SALT LAKE CITY - Governor Gary R. Herbert will visit Sevier, Piute and Wayne Counties as part of his "Capitol for a Day" rural tour, Sept. 17-18. The purpose for these visits is to allow host cities to become the workplace for the Governor and some of his senior staff, providing an opportunity to be in local communities and meet with local Utahns.</p>

SALT LAKE CITY - Governor Gary R. Herbert ordered the lowering of the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah on the day of Draper Police Sgt. Derek Ray Johnson's funeral, Friday, September 6, 2013. Sgt. Johnson died in the line of duty last Sunday.
