Salt Lake City - Utah Governor Jon Huntsman today signed Senate Bill 260, Housing Relief Restricted Special Revenue Fund. Upon his signature, he immediately directed the Utah Housing Corporation to begin dispersing 1,600 $6,000 grants to homebuyers purchasing a newly constructed home.

Salt Lake City - Utah Governor Jon Huntsman has appointed Robert S. Yeates to serve as a member of the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole. Yeates will replace Cheryl Hansen whose term ends February 28, 2009.

Salt Lake City - Utah Governor Jon Huntsman has tapped Colonel D. Lance Davenport to be Commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety.  Davenport currently serves as Superintendent of the Utah Highway Patrol. He replaces Commissioner Scott T. Duncan who stepped down this week for health reasons.

Duncan, who has worked for the State for 32 years, has resigned his post for health reasons. Utah Highway Patrol Colonel Lance Davenport will serve as acting commissioner of the department until a search for the new commissioner is completed.

Salt Lake City, Utah - Utah Governor Jon Huntsman has nominated Kent L. Jones as the new Utah State Engineer and Director of the Division of Water Rights.  The nomination has been sent to the Utah Senate for consideration.  If approved by the Senate, Jones will officially replace Jerry Olds, who retired in December 2008.

Governor Huntsman will be delivering his annual State of the State Address for 2009 on Tuesday, January 27th at 6:30 PM MST. This speech will telecast live from the Chambers of the Utah State House of Representatives at the Utah State Capitol.

Salt Lake City, Utah - Over the past year, the national economy has experienced substantial setbacks, leading to weakening in the Utah economy which is expected to persist into 2010 according to the 23rd annual Economic Report to the Governor which was presented to Utah Governor Jon Huntsman today.

Governor Huntsman will accept the 2009 Economic Report to the Governor. He will make brief comments following the acceptance of the report.
