Salt Lake City - Governor Jon Huntsman announced he will work with Utah industry and other stakeholders to develop State goals to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as part of a regional initiative to reduce emissions by 15 percent by 2020 released today.
Governor Huntsman Calls for Stand-down, Fleet Inspection
Salt Lake City - After the Apache helicopter crash Monday evening, Governor Jon Huntsman called for a mandatory stand-down of the Utah Army National Guard aircraft. The stand-down, with necessary exception, will continue through a preliminary review of the incident and any appropriate inspection of all helicopters.

Governor Huntsman Requests Additional Mines be Inspected
Salt Lake City - Governor Jon Huntsman asked the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration today to conduct immediate inspections of two additional mines owned by Murray Energy Corporation in Carbon County.
The request comes as the Governor prepares to appoint an independent investigation committee to make recommendations for State actions to ensure safety in Utah mines.
Flags Lowered in Honor of Crandall Canyon Mine Rescue Workers
Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., has authorized the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah to be lowered immediately. The flags shall be flown at half-staff on all state facilities until further notice to honor the three rescue workers who died on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at Crandall Canyon Mine in pursuit of the six trapped miners.

Salt Lake City - Utah Governor Jon Huntsman today called upon the United States Congress to reauthorize the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in a timely manner so children in Utah may receive the medical coverage they need. CHIP provides states with federal matching funds to cover uninsured children whose parents can't afford private insurance, but earn too much to qualify for Medicaid.

Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. has authorized the lowering of the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah on Friday, June 29, 2007. The flags shall be flown at half-staff on all state facilities from sunrise to sunset in honor of Officer Anderson. Officer Stephen Anderson was killed in the line of duty on June 25, 2007.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, June 29, 2007 at 11 a.m.

Dr. Nielson is currently part of Governor Huntsman's cabinet as executive director of the Department of Environmental Quality. She will be replaced by Rick Sprott, director of the Division of Air Quality at DEQ.

Board of Pardons, Public Service Commission Chairs will Change this Month
Salt Lake City - Governor Jon Huntsman has appointed Ted Boyer as the new chairman of the Public Service Commission and Curtis Garner as the new chairman of the Board of Pardons.
Boyer has been a commissioner since 2003, his current term expires in 2009. He will replace Ric Campbell who has served on the commission since 2001 and as chair since 2003. Campbell's term as a commissioner expires in 2013.
