Salt Lake City, Utah - The Utah Population Estimates Committee announced today that Utah's population was an estimated 2,757,779 on July 1, 2008 - up 58,225 or 2.2% from July 1, 2007. "In 2007 we increased our population at the rate of 10 people an hour. This year our growth was seven people an hour," said Michael Mower, Utah Population Estimates Committee Chair.

Salt Lake City - Governor Jon Huntsman is deeply concerned about the potential for a harmful trend after learning about a family who experienced near fatal consequences due to installing a faulty compressed natural gas retrofit.

Salt Lake City - Less than three weeks after the Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) Board offered an incentive package to Delta, from a Utah coalition composed of GOED, Utah Office of Tourism, Salt Lake City, and Salt Lake County to attract a Delta Air Lines direct flight from Salt Lake City to Tokyo, Japan, the airline has announced the commencement of a flight set to begin Summer 2009.

Salt Lake City, UT - Utah Governor Jon Huntsman has appointed Christine S. Johnson to fill the upcoming vacancy on the Utah Fourth District Court resulting from the retirement of Judge John Backlund.

Boone Pickens and many others in signing the Energy Independence Pledge in September, requesting the new Administration and the 111th Congress devote as much time as necessary during their first 100 days in office to develop a serious, workable Energy Policy.

Salt Lake City, UT - Utah Governor Jon Huntsman has announced the appointment of Third District Court Presiding Judge Robert K. Hilder to fill the upcoming vacancy on the Utah Court of Appeals resulting from the retirement of Judge Judith Billings, one of the original members of that court. He also appointed Marvin D. Bagley as Sixth District Court Judge to fill the seat of retiring Judge David L. Mower.

Salt Lake City - Utah Governor Jon Huntsman issued a call of the Utah State Legislature to begin a special session beginning Thursday, September 25, 2008 to address budget shortfalls from original projections.

Salt Lake City, UT - A newly released national survey ranks Utah first in the nation for its ability to utilize technology in providing services to citizens and transforming government. The Digital States Survey, conducted every two years by the Center for Digital Government, is the most widely recognized and respected study of information technology in the country. Utah has significantly improved its position from an eighth place ranking in 2004 and fourth place ranking in 2006.

Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., has authorized state agencies to lower the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah on Monday September 15, 2008.  The flags shall be flown at half-staff on all state-owned facilities from sunrise to sunset in honor of Private Jordan P.P. Thibeault.  Private Thibeault died on Sept. 5, 2008, on Forward Operating Base Hammer, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Under the direction of President George W. Bush, Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., has authorized you to lower the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah on Tuesday, September 11, 2008, in recognition of Patriot Day. Salt Lake City -The newly created Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission held its inaugural meeting on Tuesday, September 9 at the State Capitol as a result of Senate Bill 105, which was passed during this year's legislative session.

Salt Lake City - The Milken Institute announced today that Utah captured two of the top three spots in its job performance rankings. The Provo-Orem metro ranked number one and Salt Lake City ranked number three in the Milken Best Performing Cities Report 2008.  Ogden took the eighteenth best spot for job performance in the index.

Governor Jon Huntsman will officially welcome the return of the 2008 AST Dew Tour to Utah. The Dew Tour will run from Thursday, Sept. 11 through Sunday, September 14.

Governor Jon Huntsman will attend the dedication of the Memorial to the miners and rescuers who died in the Crandall Canyon mine last year.
