    Governor Welcomes Chinese Trade Delegation to Utah

    Monday, Gov. Olene Walker officially welcomed members of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) to the state and addressed them regarding economic development and the benefit of trade missions between Olympic host cities.

    Governor Walker Dedicates New Smart Sites in Washington County


    St. George - Utah Gov. Olene Walker has designated four new Utah! Smart Sites in southern Utah.  Ceremonies were held today at Steton Technology Group, one of the state's existing Smart Sites.

    Salt Lake City – Utah Gov. Olene Walker will continue her efforts to improve the state’s economy Friday by joining eight Utah companies in Silicon Valley to showcase investment opportunities in the beehive state. 

    Governor Walker Wraps Up Vancouver Trade Mission

    Vancouver, British Columbia – Thursday, Utah Gov. Olene Walker concluded a Utah! Trade Mission to Canada whose mission was to grow quality jobs in the state and promote Olympic good will. The trade mission included a delegation of eight Utah businesses and state economic development officials.

    Governor Walker Continues to Work for Utah’s Workers


    In her 2004 State of the State address, Gov. Olene Walker promised that no one would out-work, out-smart or out-hustle her administration in increasing the number of good jobs in the state. Tomorrow she will set out to continue keeping her promise.

    Governor Designates 21 st Century Community and Dedicates Smart Site in Sanpete County


    Gov. Olene Walker visited local officials and attended two community events in Sanpete County Thursday afternoon.   First, in Manti Walker designated the city as a 21 st Century Community.

  • Public Safety

    The governor launched her first project under the “Walker Work Plan.” Emphasizing public safety, Walker signed an executive order to create the Utah Wireless Integration Network (UWIN) Board. The board will ensure law enforcement, emergency responders, health officials and others can communicate effectively with one another via wireless technology.

    “We live in a wireless world, and I want Utahns to know their safety and well-being will be enhanced as we bridge the gap between multiple agencies and through geographic boundaries,” said Walker. “Together, we will work to ensure our various technologies and systems can ‘talk to each other.’ Effective communication is the key to successfully preventing and responding to any public safety threat.”

    Governor Announces Completion of UWIN Initiative

    Gov. Olene Walker today announced the successful completion of Phase I of the Utah Wireless Integrated Network (UWIN), a statewide, wireless voice network which enables disparate radio systems to communicate with each other.

    Governor Creates Task Force to Address State?s Future Water Supply - (Executive Order)

    Gov. Olene S. Walker, through executive order, has created a task force to evaluate financing options for future state water projects.  The Water Delivery Financing Task Force is specifically charged with evaluating proposals for the Lake Powell Pipeline and a water delivery system for the Bear River. The task force will report its findings to the governor by July 1, 2005.


    Governor Calls On Utahns and State Agencies To Conserve Water

    Friday, Gov. Olene Walker called on Utahns to "Slow The Flow" and begin now with water conservation efforts for the season. In addition, the governor signed an executive order, directing all state agencies to implement water conservation policies.


    Governor's Watershed Initiative: Adopt-A-Waterbody

    For three years, the Governor's Water Conservation Team has urged Utahns to "Slow the Flow, Save H2O." I am proud to say that we have followed this call to action and have saved millions of gallons of water. Bravo! But we can't stop now. I want to urge our citizen's of this great state to continue to Slow the Flow but to also challenge them to Know Your Watershed.

    Governor Announces Wilderness Plan

    Monday, Gov. Olene Walker, surrounded by a group of state, federal, local and private leaders, announced a new plan to resolve decades-long wilderness and public lands disputes in the state of Utah.

    Governor Submits First Rural County Roads (R.S. 2477) Application to Bureau of Land Management


    Gov. Olene Walker and Lt. Gov. Gayle McKeachnie passed a significant milestone on the path to resolving decades-old rural road disputes by submitting an application to the Utah office of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for a recordable disclaimer of interest regarding the right of way for the Weiss Highway located in Juab County.

    Governor Launches Quality Growth Communities Program

    Gov. Olene Walker signed an executive order officially launching the Quality Growth Communities Program, an effort to encourage and reward quality growth planning in Utah.

    Governor Encourages State Employees to Work Healthier

    Tuesday, Gov. Olene Walker announced eight Work Well recommendations to help Utah state employees eat better and get more physical activity. The recommendations are designed to prevent obesity, decrease absenteeism and health care costs, reduce stress, improve morale and productivity, and promote the lifelong health of employees and their families.
