| "Our
strategy is to position Utah within the global marketplace as a capital
of high tech investment, employment and entrepreneurship where businesses
can operate profitably." --Governor Mike Leavitt
Utah has a
rich history of continuous innovation. Many prominent Utah achievements
have helped shape the world of technology. The inventor of the
television was born in Utah, as were the beginnings of the computer
graphics and word processing industries. The artificial heart,
kidney, and limbs had their genesis here, as did the discovery
of more gene related diseases than anywhere in the world.
Utah is a place
where ideas connect. The transcontinental railroad and Pony Express
trail connected here. Utah is also home to one of four of the original
nodes connecting the ARPANET, a precursor to the Internet.
The states
growing workforce, education oriented population, tech savvy workforce,
affordability, and recreation-minded and livable amenities offer
technology companies a great location to grow a business.
Governor Leavitt
has launched a 1000 day plan for renewed economic vibrancy that
focuses on accelerating Utah's emergence as a technology capital.
The plan includes proactive and strategic steps to create quality
jobs in Utah. Key components of the plan include the transformation
of Utah's education system, a focus on targeted technology industries,
and extending Utah's Olympic opportunity beyond the 17 days of
the Games.
