First Lady Jeanette Herbert will participate in a reading event with the Intermountain Therapy Animals (I.T.A.) R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) program. Previously, Mrs. Herbert donated books (LaRue Across America, by Mark Teague) to Copperview Elementary, a Title I school. The event will be attended by 30-40 first grade students, I.T.A R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) Teams, I.T.A administration and school administration.

Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert will hold a remote media availability from the Grouse Creek School in Grouse Creek, Utah. The Grouse Creek School is the smallest public school in the state, with just eight students and three teachers.  The Grouse Creek School is also the only remaining one-room school in the state.

Governor Gary R. Herbert will address high school students through a first-ever statewide broadcast from a Utah governor.  The Governor's address will be broadcast via the Utah Education Network (UEN) from the USU/CEU center in Blanding and will be available via livestream to every high school in the state.

The Health Summit will serve as the kickoff to develop Utah's Five-Year Health Plan, with work panels launching future subject-specific efforts. Governor Herbert and Michael O. Leavitt, former Utah Governor and Secretary of Health and Human Services, are keynote speakers.

The newly formed Women's College Task Force, a subcommittee of the Governor's Education Excellence Commission, will meet for the first time.

Governor Gary R. Herbert will participate in the Reagan Centennial National Football Coin Toss by flipping the coin at the opening of the game between rivals Desert Hills High School and Dixie High School to commemorate our 40th president's 100th birthday.

In honor of Governor Gary R. Herbert's September 11, 2011, declaration of a Day of Service and Remembrance, the Governor and his staff will volunteer at the Utah Food Bank.

Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert has ordered the lowering of the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2011. The flags shall be flown at half-staff on all state facilities from sunrise to noon and then raised to full staff at noon on Monday, May 30, 2011.

SALT LAKE CITY – Governor Gary R. Herbert will host ceremonial bill signing ceremonies tomorrow, Tuesday, April 26, 2011, in the Gold Room of the State Capitol for the following bills:

Governor Herbert will sign bills today which authorize the issuance of general obligation and revenue bonds for specified capital projects throughout the state (HB4 & SB5).  The bill signings will be held at three institutions of higher education which will benefit from the bonding authority:  Weber State University - Davis, Utah State University, and the Tooele Applied Technical College.

Governor Herbert will highlight Utah's efforts to fund education growth for the first time in three years by signing a budget bill (HB2, Minimum School Program and Public Education Budget Amendments) at Taylorsville Elementary tomorrow at 10 a.m. in front of approximately 500 students.
