SALT LAKE CITY - Today in the Capitol Gold Room, Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert honored Utah Army National Guard Sergeant Guy Mellor, 24, winner of the Army's 2011 Best Warrior Competition Noncommissioned Officer of the Year. With Mellor's mother, Kelly Sue, National Guard officials and friends looking on, the Governor signed an official declaration, making it "Sergeant Guy Mellor Day in Utah." Herbert and other state leaders sent Kathleen Sebelius, head of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS), a letter urging consideration of state input in federal health policy, as well as flexibility in defining the "essential health benefits" package dictated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Last Friday, HHS released a bulleting doing just that.

SALT LAKE CITY - Today Governor Gary R. Herbert announced the appointment of Kathleen Clarke to head the Public Lands Policy Coordination Office (PLPCO). SALT LAKE CITY - The State of Utah has completed filing a series of Notices of Intent (NOI) to initiate litigation under the Quiet Title Act for 18,784 roads in 22 rural Utah counties.  The NOIs were filed with the U.S. Department of Interior in anticipation of filing suit in federal court, as required by law.

SALT LAKE CITY -Today Governor Gary R. Herbert announced the appointment of Curtis L. Garner to the Third District Court.  Garner will be filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Sandra N. Peuler.  Garner is currently serving as a member of the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole.

Today, Governor Gary R. Herbert unveiled his budget recommendations for FY 2013. The Governor’s budget recommendations focus on his four policy cornerstones: Education, Jobs, Energy, and Self-determination. SALT LAKE CITY - Today, Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert announced that on Wednesday, November 9, at 12:00 PM Mountain Standard Time (MST), the federal government will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS).  The test will last about 30 seconds, but could go as long as three and a half minutes, during which regularly scheduled television, radio, cable, and satellite shows will be interrupted.
