Utah Explores Future Olympic Winter Games Bid

Salt Lake City - Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert today appointed Woods Cross resident Todd Weiler to Utah Senate District 23. The appointment was recommended by the Davis County Republican Party delegates. Weiler will replace Sen. Dan Liljenquist who resigned to run for the U.S. Senate.

SALT LAKE CITY - Today in the Capitol Gold Room, Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert honored Utah Army National Guard Sergeant Guy Mellor, 24, winner of the Army's 2011 Best Warrior Competition Noncommissioned Officer of the Year. With Mellor's mother, Kelly Sue, National Guard officials and friends looking on, the Governor signed an official declaration, making it "Sergeant Guy Mellor Day in Utah." Mellor, B Battery, 1st Battalion, 145th Field Artillery, is from Fayette, Utah.

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert has issued the following message to all Utahns this holiday season:
SALT LAKE CITY - Ten days ago Governor Gary R. Herbert and other state leaders sent Kathleen Sebelius, head of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS), a letter urging consideration of state input in federal health policy, as well as flexibility in defining the "essential health benefits" package dictated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Last Friday, HHS released a bulleting doing just that.
SALT LAKE CITY - Today Governor Gary R. Herbert announced the appointment of Kathleen Clarke to head the Public Lands Policy Coordination Office (PLPCO). Clarke is presently a deputy commissioner of the Utah Dept. of Agriculture and Food and former national director of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in the U.S. Department of Interior.

Utah Files Notices of Intent to Sue Federal Government Over Title to 18,784 Roads in 22 Utah Counties

SALT LAKE CITY - The State of Utah has completed filing a series of Notices of Intent (NOI) to initiate litigation under the Quiet Title Act for 18,784 roads in 22 rural Utah counties. The NOIs were filed with the U.S. Department of Interior in anticipation of filing suit in federal court, as required by law.
SALT LAKE CITY -Today Governor Gary R. Herbert announced the appointment of Curtis L. Garner to the Third District Court. Garner will be filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Sandra N. Peuler. Garner is currently serving as a member of the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole.
Governor Releases FY 2013 Budget Recommendations

Today, Governor Gary R. Herbert unveiled his budget recommendations for FY 2013. The Governor’s budget recommendations focus on his four policy cornerstones: Education, Jobs, Energy, and Self-determination. A recovering economy and fiscally prudent management will allow the State to fund critical priorities, including growth in public education.
SALT LAKE CITY - The U.S. Census Bureau's Consolidated Federal Funds Report for Fiscal Year 2010 shows that, unlike many state economies that are increasingly reliant on federal government spending, Utah depends less per capita on federal dollars.

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert has authorized the lowering of the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, in recognition of the 70th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor. The flags shall be flown at half-staff on all state facilities from sunrise to sunset on December 7 only.

The report, in its 25th year of publication, represents a collaborative effort of public and private entities to provide consolidated information on Utah's economy. The 2011 report portrays a strengthening recovery, though the global financial crisis that began in 2008 continues to influence economic growth in every state.
SALT LAKE CITY - Utah's latest Key Economic Performance Indicators (KEPI) report indicates many key variables in the state's recovering economy are better than they were at this time last year. Employment, revenue, foreclosures and international trade figures are all markedly improved when compared to 2010.

SALT LAKE CITY - Today, Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert announced that on Wednesday, November 9, at 12:00 PM Mountain Standard Time (MST), the federal government will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The test will last about 30 seconds, but could go as long as three and a half minutes, during which regularly scheduled television, radio, cable, and satellite shows will be interrupted.
