SALT LAKE CITY – Governor Gary R. Herbert has authorized the lowering of the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah, December 6-9, in remembrance of those who died at Pearl Harbor 72 years ago, and in memory of Nelson Mandela.

Governor Herbert issued the following statement:

The State of Utah honors those fallen or injured in the terrible attack on Pearl Harbor. I am humbled by and grateful for every noble man and woman who dedicate their lives to protecting freedom and the welfare of others. May God bless our Veterans and their families.
We also honor the life of Nelson Mandela who suffered much for his fellow man. He led with a strong willed determination to improve the lives of others. His humanitarian legacy should encourage each of us to be better.
Flags will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset, December 6-9, 2013.
