Salt Lake City - Today Governor Gary R. Herbert signed a proclamation convening the Utah Legislature into Special Session to address some legislative issues on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at 2:30 p.m.

"Issues related to the federal shutdown necessitate immediate action by our State Legislature," said the Governor. "We can no longer wait."

Among the issues to be considered during the Special Session include:
o    Appropriating and/or authorizing the use of state funds to open and operate certain national parks, national monuments and/or national recreation areas.
o    Appropriating and/or authorizing the use of state funds to offset obligations occasioned by delays in federal funding to the Child Nutrition Program.
o    Appropriating and/or authorizing the use of state funds to cover the benefits of certain furloughed employees which are unpaid because of a lapse in federal funds.
o    For the Senate to consent to appointments made by the Governor.

This will be the second Special Session the Governor has called this year. The first one occurred on July 17, 2013.
