SALT LAKE CITY - Today Governor Gary R. Herbert will visit Vernal as part of his "Capitol for a Day" tours. The purpose for the visit is to allow the host city to become the workplace for the Governor and some of his senior staff, providing an opportunity to get out into local communities and visit with Utahns.
"I'm excited to be in Utah's rural communities and visit with people," said the Governor. "Today I get to be with the people of Vernal and the Uintah Basin area. These are good people who work hard and are a vital part of the economic success of this state."
While in Vernal, the Governor will meet with residents, local leaders and officials at the following locations:
11:30 AM, Brad Haslem, Inc. - A local business that went from a one-person company to a nationwide, multi-million dollar company.
12:15 PM, Uintah County Commissioners and Legislators - Meet with local officials to highlight the great things happening in the Uintah Basin. In addition, discuss the challenges and opportunities in the Uintah Basin.
1:30 PM, Maeser Elementary School - The Governor will meet with kindergarteners to tell them about the basic role of the Governor and encourage them to read.
2:15 PM, Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum - The Governor will take a tour showcasing the partnership between Uintah County and the Utah State Parks, resulting in a new paleontological repository to keep fossils and dinosaur bones of the Uintah Basin local.
3:00 PM, Ashley Regional Medical Center - The Governor will tour the medical center.
4:00 PM, KVEL Radio Station - The Governor will do a taped radio interview that will air the following morning on the Lincoln Brown Show (weekdays from 8-9 AM).
The Governor will visit the Richfield/Gunnison area on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, as the next stop on the "Capitol for a Day" tours.
