Salt Lake City, Utah - Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. has authorized the lowering of the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah to fly at half-staff on all state facilities in honor of Spc. Lex S. Nelson.

Spc. Nelson died in Tikrit, Iraq on Dec. 12, when he fell from a guard tower. Nelson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery, 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.

Spc. Nelson will be laid to rest today, Tuesday, December 20, 2005. Flags shall be lowered to half staff at sunrise, Tuesday, December 20, 2005 and shall remain at half staff until sunset of the same date.

"We express our most sincere condolences to the Nelson family and grieve with them for their loss," Gov. Huntsman said. "I am reminded each day of the sacrifices of this family as a picture of Spc. Nelson hangs on the Christmas Tree in the mansion."
