Background: The Governor's budget recommendations for FY2014 demonstrate a bolder education agenda, better aligning public education, technical education and higher education with the tools needed to achieve the Governor's goal of 66% of all Utah adults acquiring a certificate or degree by 2020-an economic necessity.
A major emphasis in the Governor's education budget is on science, technology, engineering and math, also known as STEM. The Granite Technical Institute is a proven example of how students are prepared by education partners and business for STEM certifications and degrees.
The Governor's budget recommendations are based on current consensus revenue projections, agreed upon by both the Governor's Office and the Legislative Fiscal Analyst's Office. Federal budget and debt decisions, coupled with national economic uncertainty, make state fiscal prudence, diligence and caution requisite.
Visuals: Media are invited to tour the different floors of the GTI where students participate in classrooms and labs, including: bio-manufacturing/ biotechnology, 3-D animation, health science technology, aviation, information technology and agricultural science.
