SALT LAKE CITY - Governor Gary R. Herbert has issued the following message in recognition of the Thanksgiving Day holiday:
Just today, Jeanette and I had the opportunity to serve Thanksgiving dinner at the Rescue Mission. There was turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and all the traditional delights. The tables were filled and I enjoyed the time we had to serve new friends.
I truly believe the greatest way to show gratitude is through service to others. I first learned this from my parents who constantly went about doing good without being asked. Like my parents, there are many in this state who go out of their way daily to help those in need. I encourage everyone to reach beyond immediate circles and uplift those who are finding life to be difficult.
Utah is a uniquely wonderful place to live, and in my own opinion, it is the best in America. This is a good time to honor those men and women in uniform who sacrifice so much to keep us safe and defend our freedoms. As many countries today struggle with war, starvation and disease, may we never take for granted the blessings we have in Utah and America, blessings of health, freedom and security.
I am honored and grateful to serve as the Governor Utah. I look forward to spending tomorrow with my family and friends and I wish all a very happy Thanksgiving.
Governor Gary R. Herbert
