Governor Huntsman selects Ambassadors for Torino

Salt Lake City - Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. announced today a small delegation to attend the 2006 Olympic Winter Games which begin Feb. 10 in Torino, Italy. The delegation will represent the State of Utah and its efforts to continue Utah's Olympic Legacy to ensure the flame continues to burn brightly for years to come. The delegation will attend opening ceremonies and spend two additional days meeting with key members of the Olympic community, sponsors and the international sports community. All expenses incurred will be paid for through private funding.

Governor Huntsman has asked the following to represent the State of Utah as Ambassadors at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games * Al Mansell, Utah State Senator and former Senate President; Fraser Bullock, former President and Chief Operating Officer of Salt Lake Organizing Committee, and Jennifer Bullock; Lane Beattie, President & CEO, Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce; Jeff Robbins, President & CEO, Utah Sports Commission; John Bennion, President & CEO, Olympic Parks of Utah; Nikki Stone, gold medalist, 1998 Nagano Olympic Winter Games, and Michael Spencer; and Jim Shea Jr., gold medalist, 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games.

"As Ambassadors of this great state, these individuals represent Utah's Olympic finest," Governor Huntsman said. "This group, as well as the others who are traveling to the Games from Utah, show a continued resolve to leverage opportunities in business development, international relations, tourism and of course, sports."

Sen. Mansell agrees, "The State made a tremendous investment in its hosting of the 2002 Games and it is critical to find ways to continue to leverage that investment."
