Governor Appoints Curtis L. Garner to Third District Court

SALT LAKE CITY -Today Governor Gary R. Herbert announced the appointment of Curtis L. Garner to the Third District Court. Garner will be filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Sandra N. Peuler. Garner is currently serving as a member of the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole.
"With his myriad professional and educational accomplishments, Curt is well prepared to serve on the Third District Court," said Governor Herbert. "I have been impressed by Curt's demonstrated ability to make difficult decisions and by his analytical capacity. Curt has all the experience, skills, and potential necessary to be an excellent judge."
Garner was appointed to the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole in 1992 and served as its chair from 2007 to 2010. He served as a special assistant in the Utah Governor's Office from 1989 to 1992. Garner was in private practice at the Long Beach, California, firm of Stump, Garner & Wright for five years, and also served as a deputy district attorney in Orange County, California.
Garner has a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University, where he was class valedictorian. He also holds a juris doctorate from the J. Rueben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University and a master's in philosophy from the University of Utah.
The Third Judicial District serves Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele counties. Garner's appointment is subject to confirmation by the Utah State Senate.
