News Release
September 03, 2005

SALT LAKE CITY*Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., has declared a state of emergency in Utah.

In a letter to President Bush, Governor Huntsman is allocating up to $5 million to assist with the ongoing sheltering and housing operations along with the continuing issues in providing for the massive influx of evacuees from Hurricane Katrina. These funds will respond to hurricane related events for an unspecified period of time. It is anticipated all eligible costs incurred by state and local governments for this emergency will be funded 100 percent by the federal government.

The request for a presidential declaration needs to be signed by the President in order to take effect.

A copy of the official declaration for the state of emergency is attached.
