SALT LAKE CITY - Governor Gary R. Herbert has ordered the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah to be lowered in honor of Special Warfare Operator Petty Officer 1st Class (SEAL) Jason R. Workman.  The flags will be flown at half-staff at all state facilities from sunrise to sunset on August 20, 2011.

Petty Officer Workman, of Blanding, Utah, was killed on August 6, 2011, in Wardack Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  He was assigned to an East Coast-based Naval Special Warfare unit.

Governor Herbert has issued the following statement:

"On behalf of the citizens of this great state, Jeanette and I offer our heartfelt condolences to the Workman family.  Petty Officer Jason Workman was a member of the most elite team in the Navy's most elite force, and personified the bravery and unselfish commitment to God and country it takes to willingly put yourself in harm's way for your fellow citizens.  Words cannot adequately express the deep gratitude the people of Utah feel when one of Utah's sons makes the ultimate sacrifice while fighting to protect our nation."
