Governor Orders Flags Lowered to Honor Former First Lady

Salt Lake City - Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert has authorized the lowering of the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah on Thursday, Aug 4, 2011, in honor of Colleen Monson Bangerter. The flags shall be flown at half-staff on all state facilities from sunrise to sunset on Aug 4th only.
The Governor issued the following statement upon learning of Mrs. Bangerter's passing:
"Colleen Bangerter was an extraordinary First Lady of Utah and every bit the equal of Governor Bangerter in her public service. She excelled in her greatest roles of wife and mother. With her personal touch and generous nature, she was a radiant example to the people of Utah and will truly be missed. At this difficult time, Jeanette and I express our heartfelt sympathies to Governor Bangerter and his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them."
Mrs. Bangerter served as First Lady of the State of Utah from 1985-1993. She participated on a number of Boards and Commissions throughout the state. She was proactive in youth and women's programs, as she worked on initiatives under the direction of Nancy Reagan and Barbara Bush. She was a beloved wife and mother. Mrs. Bangerter was well respected and loved. Her memory will not be forgotten.
