Governor Orders Flags To Be Lowered in Honor of Corporal Raphael R. Arruda

SALT LAKE CITY - Governor Gary R. Herbert has ordered the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah to be lowered in honor of Corporal Raphael R. Arruda. The flags will be flown at half-staff at all state facilities from sunrise to sunset on July 30, 2011.
Corporal Raphael R. Arruda, of Ogden, died on July 16, 2011, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
He was assigned to the 744th Engineer Company, 416th Theater Engineer Command, U.S. Army Reserve, Ogden, Utah.
Governor Herbert issued the following statement upon receiving word of his death:
"With sincere gratitude for having paid the ultimate price to maintain our freedoms and defend our country, all of Utah mourns for the loss of Corporal Raphael R. Arruda. Jeanette and I offer our deepest condolences to Corporal Arruda's family. On behalf of the people of Utah, we offer thanks for his service to our state and our nation."
