Governor Huntsman Names an Energy AdvisorNews Release

Salt Lake City, Utah * Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Energy Advisor for the state. Dr. Laura S. Nelson has accepted the position and plans to begin on September 1, 2005. "Dr. Nelson has extensive experience in energy policy," said Governor Huntsman. "We look forward to utilizing Dr. Nelson's expertise to help shape our energy initiatives." Dr. Nelson received her Bachelor's Degree and Ph.D. from the University of Utah. Currently, she is a Policy Strategist with the Idaho Public Utilities Commission. She has also held positions as Utility Regulation Consultant with LSN Consulting in Idaho; Technical Consultant with the Utah Division of Public Utilities, and Utility Economist with the Utah Committee of Consumer Service. As Energy Director, Dr. Nelson will assist in the development of public policy of energy for the State of Utah and work closely with the newly formed Governor's Energy Advisory Council. In addition, Dr. Nelson holds two professional appointments. She is currently a Governor Appointed Representative to the Western Interstate Energy board as well as a Current Commission Appointed Representative to the Energy Resources and the Environment Staff Subcommittee, National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC). "Through a well developed energy policy it is also a great opportunity for Utah to shape its energy future and play a key role in meeting the nation's energy needs."
