Governor Orders Flags To Be Lowered in Honor of Specialist Preston J. Suter

SALT LAKE CITY - Governor Gary R. Herbert has ordered the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah to be lowered in honor of Specialist Preston J. Suter. The flags will be flown at half-staff at all state facilities from sunrise to sunset on July 19, 2011.
Specialist Suter died on July 5, 2011, in Paktia Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Specialist Suter died of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle.
Specialist Suter was assigned to the 527th Military Police Company, 709th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Company, Hohenfels, Germany.
Governor Herbert issued the following statement of condolence upon notification of Specialist Suter's death:
"The entire State of Utah mourns with the family of Specialist Suter. Deeply grateful for the incomparable price he has paid while honorably defending our nation and freedom, Jeanette and I offer sincere condolences to his wife and parents, and heartfelt thanks on behalf of all the people of Utah for his service to the country and this state."
