Utah Governor Appoints International Trade Executive for Latin AmericaNews Release

Salt Lake City - Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. has appointed a trade executive to oversee the state's economic development efforts in Latin America. Miguel R. Rovira will assume his duties on August 1, 2005. "Latin America is one of Utah's emerging international markets due the state's close ties to the region and our growing Hispanic population," said Governor Huntsman. "Miguel will be a great addition to our international efforts that will initially focus on initiatives in Mexico." Rovira, an attorney, is currently the executive director of the Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce based in Salt Lake City, which promotes the economic development and entrepreneurial presence of Latino-owned businesses in Utah. He is also president of Telesol LLC in Salt Lake City, a technical support and telecommunications consulting firm. Rovira also was president of Hercules Satellite Communications, LLC and director of the Telecommunications Division of TROY Systems, Inc., both located in Fairfax, Virginia. He had a law office in Falls Church, Virginia from 1994-1997 and worked as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Transportation, Office of the Assistant General Counsel for Litigation, in Washington, D.C. from 1985-1991. In 2004, Rovira was elected vice-chairman of the Utah Hispanic Republican Assembly. He has served on the advisory board of Clear Channel and is a member of the Wells Fargo Hispanic Advisory Board. Rovira is a graduate of the National Law Center of George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He also received a master's degree in philosophy and a bachelor's degree in English and philosophy from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. Governor Huntsman will also appoint a trade executive for Asia in the near future in his effort to target key international markets as part of the state's economic development strategy.
