Salt Lake City, Utah * Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., has appointed Judge Paul Iwasaki to Utah's Second District Juvenile Court. The Court has jurisdiction in Weber, Davis and Morgan Counties. Iwasaki is currently a Salt Lake City Justice Court Judge. "This is a critical appointment because the decisions made in juvenile court can have lifelong implications," said Governor Huntsman. "Judge Iwasaki brings a variety of skills to this position which will serve him well on the bench." Currently, Judge Iwasaki sits on the Salt Lake City Justice Court. He also served as Administrative Law Judge for the Utah State Tax Commission and the Utah Department of Employment Security, Assistant Attorney General in the Utah Attorney General's Office, Deputy Salt Lake County Attorney, and police officer for the Salt Lake City Police Department. "I am deeply honored to be asked to serve on the Second District Juvenile Court," said Iwasaki. "If confirmed, I will devote my time and energy to providing the best service possible to the community." Iwasaki's nomination now goes to the Senate confirmation committee. As a result of legislation passed in the 2005 General Session, a new seat on the Second District Juvenile bench was created to handle the growing caseload. Iwasaki will fill the new seat.
