Governor Herbert's Statement on University of Utah President Michael K. Young's Departure
Apr. 25, 2011
SALT LAKE CITY - Governor Gary R. Herbert issued the following statement today regarding University of Utah President Michael K. Young's Departure for the University of Washington:
"Washington's gain is truly Utah's loss. Michael Young has been an outstanding leader for both the U and the State of Utah. With Mike at the helm, the University of Utah became more than just a new Pac-12 contender on the playing field; it is a national champion in the classroom and in the laboratory. I'm proud to tell people that last year the U of U surpassed MIT to take the top spot in the country for the number of start-up companies with their beginnings in university research--exactly the kind of innovation we need to fuel the economy and create jobs. UW obviously recognized Mike's exceptional talent and ability, and I wish him well. But I have to say, I'm now looking forward to watching the Huskies get trounced by the Utes in the Pac-12."
