Governor Authorizes Flag Lowering in Tribute to Senator Stowell
Apr. 22, 2011
SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert authorized the lowering of the flag of the United States of America and the flag of the State of Utah on Friday, April 22, 2011, in honor of Senator Dennis Earl Stowell.
In an earlier statement, Governor Herbert said, "Senator Dennis Stowell was a great friend with whom I worked for nearly two decades. We met when we were both County Commissioners. Dennis was a man of singular intellect who had a deep understanding of many issues of great importance to his native Iron County and to the whole state of Utah.
"He was a great asset to his constituents and his community through his work on public lands, mineral and water rights management, agriculture, and other concerns. His background in local government made him particularly effective and insightful as a State Senator, and his common-sense approach to finding workable solutions will be sorely missed... Jeanette and I offer our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones."
Accompanied by the First Lady, Governor Herbert attended Senator Stowell's funeral in Parowan today. Flags shall be flown at half-staff on all state facilities from sunrise to sunset on Friday, April 22, 2011.
