SALT LAKE CITY - Governor Gary R. Herbert has appointed Ally Isom, current government affairs director for the Utah Department of Workforce Services, to serve as a deputy chief of staff.

Isom will partner with incoming chief of staff Derek Miller and Michael Mower, also a deputy chief of staff for the Governor's Office.

"Ally comes to the Governor's Office with an intimate knowledge of all levels of state government, as well as a proven working relationship with the Legislature," Governor Herbert said. "She will complement the talents and expertise of Derek and Mike, and, together, the three will lead my senior staff."

Isom's primary area of responsibility will be overseeing Governor Herbert's communications office and serving as the Governor's spokesperson. Mower's primary focus as deputy chief of staff will be interfacing with the Governor's Cabinet.

"I am truly honored to join Governor Herbert's team and thankful for his confidence in me," Isom said. "The Governor is passionate about making sure Utah stands out for its economic recovery and vitality. I am excited to be a part of that because it matters to every Utahn."

Prior to Workforce Services, Isom served as deputy director of the Utah Department of Community and Culture. She also worked in public affairs for the Salt Lake City office of R&R Partners and managed the first two statewide campaigns for Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff.

A graduate of Brigham Young University, Isom majored in political science and minored in communications. She currently serves on the Kaysville City Council.
