Governor Huntsman Offers Condolences, Encourages Honoring Victims
Salt Lake City - Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. has encouraged Utahns to join Virginia in a show of mourning Friday to honor the victims who died at Virginia Tech and support all those affected.
Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine has declared a Day of Mourning in his state Friday and has asked others to join the noon-time (10 a.m. MDT) bell ringing ceremony.
"In the face of senseless tragedy we must all stand together, even when miles apart, to show our love and support to those families, friends and communities suffering through the Virginia Tech shootings," Governor Huntsman said. "Mary Kaye and I extend our most sincere thoughts and prayers to all involved. It is through the strength and solidarity of the country that the Virginia Tech community can become stronger."
In addition to individuals churches, municipal buildings and higher education facilities with public bell systems are invited to participate in the ceremony.
In accordance with the proclamation of President George Bush, Governor Huntsman had also called for the lowering of the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah until sunset on Sunday, April 22, 2007.
