SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert has issued the following statement regarding the death of Lance Corporal Nigel K. Olsen:

"Utah lost another native son last week with the death of Lance Corporal Olsen, who was serving his first deployment to Afghanistan. This decorated young Marine is a true hero to the State of Utah, and we will never forget his service or his sacrifice."

"Jeanette and I extend our prayers to Lance Corporal Olsen's family, who are our neighbors and our friends. In their time of sorrow, we join them in fond remembrance of their grandson, son and brother."

Lance Corporal Olsen, 21, died March 4 from injuries sustained from combat action in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He was a Select Marine Corps Reservist assigned to 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan.
 
Funeral services for Lance Corporal Olsen are scheduled for Saturday, March 13. Flags shall be flown at half-staff at all state-owned facilities that day from sunrise to sundown in his honor.
