Governor Huntsman traveling to Iraq to meet Utah soldiers
Salt Lake City - Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. is part of a delegation traveling to Iraq today at the invitation of Arizona Sen. John McCain.
"Since 9/11 more than 4,000 Utah soldiers and airmen from the Utah National Guard have been deployed. Nearly 1,000 are here right now. Utahns are known for their patriotism and dedication to the freedoms of our country. These men and women represent our state well and I wish them and their families well during this time," Huntsman said. "My family and I have honored those who have given the ultimate sacrifice since 9/11 and now, today, I am here to thank those who are still in this desert country so far from their homes and families.
"As commander-in-chief of the Utah National Guard, I look forward to meeting these heroes who are working to free the Iraqi people of oppression with the light of Democracy. I am moved by the willingness of the people of Utah * young and old * to serve their families, their neighbors and their country."
Additional information on the Governor's trip to Iraq will be released as it is made available.
