SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Lieutenant Governor Gary R. Herbert will take the oath of office to officially become Utah’s 17th Governor on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The inauguration will begin at noon in the State Capitol Rotunda, shortly after Governor Jon Huntsman signs his formal resignation to become U.S. Ambassador to China. The United States Senate confirmed the appointment by President Barack Obama earlier today.

All Utahns are invited to attend the transition ceremony, which will include a farewell address from Governor Huntsman and an inaugural address from the State’s newest Governor. Limited seating will be available, and there will be standing room inside the Capitol. Doors will open at 11 a.m., and attendees should be in place by 11:30 a.m.

Members of the media wishing to cover the event need to contact the Governor’s Office to secure credentials and arrange seating.
