A note from Utah Gov. Gary R. Herbert

"The May 20  Moore, Oklahoma, tornado is a sad and stark reminder that Mother Nature has tremendous power. We mourn for the families of Moore, Oklahoma, who have lost loved ones. We pray for healing for them.

This is a time for Utahns’ generosity to help in the recovery efforts. If you are able to help, please remember it’s most efficient and effective to donate cash to reputable relief organizations, such as the American Red Cross."

Prepare for tornadoes now

Be Ready Utah has added tornado preparedness information to its website. This information is designed to help Utahns to respond before, during and after a tornado.

The new web page, which can be found here, features standard information that can be used by residents, businesses, communities and families who need to know how to respond if a tornado strikes the Beehive State again.

Though Utah hasn't experienced a major tornado since 1999, Utahns need to know that every state has the potential for tornadoes.

Help for Oklahoma

The State of Oklahoma has set up a new website (www.ok.gov/okstrong) to help people understand the situation there and how to donate most effectively. Remember, it's best to donate cash, not stuff.
